More than just A community

At the core of everything we do is Whanaungatanga. We go beyond the word community and help our members feel more like whānau, not clients. We have all types, all shapes, and all sizes. Everyone is welcome at The Movement NZ.

The Movement's Values

We're driven by something more meaningful than most.
Kotahitanga
Unity
Kotahitanga represents unity and togetherness. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration and collective action for the benefit of the community. It promotes relationships, respects diversity, and values the contributions of all individuals.
Tautoko
Support
Tautoko encompasses the meaning of support, encouragement, and affirmation. For the Movement NZ it represents the act of standing by someone, backing them up, and showing solidarity. You are never a lone when you step in to our whare, someone will alwasy be there for you. Tautoko fosters a sense of community, empathy, and connectedness, emphasizing the importance of uplifting and empowering others.
Ngākautitikaha
Commitment
Ngakautitikaha reflects a mindset of inner strength, courage, and tenacity. It signifies the willingness to face challenges head-on, to endure hardships, and to remain steadfast in pursuing goals or overcoming obstacles. We know changes can not be made without commitment. Once you commit, you will see things change for you.
Manākitanga
All People
Manaakitanga emphasizes respect, generosity, and empathy. This creates a welcoming and nurturing environment. It fosters positive relationships, a sense of belonging, and is a fundamental cultural value in Māori society.

Holistic health

Using our whare as a model, with its strong foundations and four equal sides, the symbol of our whare illustrates the four dimensions of Māori well-being. Should one of the four dimensions be missing or in some way damaged, a person, or a collective may become ‘unbalanced’ and subsequently unwell. Each dimension is as equally important than the other

The capacity to belong, to care and to share where individuals are part of wider social systems. Whānau provides us with the strength to be who we are. This is the link to our ancestors, our ties with the past, the present and the future.

The capacity for faith and wider communication. Health is related to unseen and unspoken energies. The spiritual essence of a person is their life force. This determines us as individuals and as a collective, who and what we are, where we have come from and where we are going.

The capacity to communicate, to think and to feel mind and body are inseparable. Thoughts, feelings and emotions are integral components of the body and soul. This is about how we see ourselves in this universe, our interaction with that which is uniquely Māori and the perception that others have of us.

The capacity for physical growth and development. Good physical health is required for optimal development.
